As I write, I'm just in from a stroll around the block (a country block, 3km). My nose is still a little sniffly and my earlobes are cold to the touch. 0300h, July 1 and it is 6 Celsius, what the hell?!
Canada Day forecast is calling for rain wind and a ridiculous high of 13...oh well, that just means a sweater and raincoat instead of shorts and sunscreen.
These late night walks have grown on me; dark and quiet except for the pockets of frogs and the hooting owls. The cracking twigs in the bushes no doubt are deer and their fawns. On the night of the full Moon I shared the road with a doe and her two fawns. The Mom seemed to ignore me as we passed but the two little ones watched me until their necks craned backwards! Typically there are no cars so, I feel I have the world to myself.
Tonight as I walked I began to hear faint music ahead. As I continued all I could think that someone had left a radio sitting on a deck or a car window was open somewhere but, I couldn't pinpoint it nor did I seem to be getting any closer. About two minutes passed before I realized it was Mr. Ipod in my coat pocket, the tinny sound of music escaping from the earbuds! Back to silence, except for my foot falls on the asphalt. Suddenly, an idea!
There is a microphone attachment available for 4th gen ipods that turns it into a digital recorder, just plug and play! So, stay tuned for not only written words, photographs and video but AUDIO! Soon you will hear what I hear. Frogs, owls, that damn dog that always barks when I go by his house and gives me a start every damn time and who knows what else? rustling in the underbrush, rainfall, rushing water, a fog horn maybe? I'm excited by the possibilities of this new element!
BONNE FETE CANADA! I feel a cool, blustery day coming for sure but, a nice night with a dappled sky as a backdrop for fireworks.
Peace,
Allan
